Echoes of a Mountain Song – weekend finale
Saturday 23rd April – Sunday 24th April 2016
Our Echoes of a Mountain Song series culminates in a weekend of events exploring the creative freedom found in Northern landscapes. It also marks the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare on 23rd April, who is rumoured to have spent a period of ‘lost years’ serving wealthy Catholic families in Lancashire. That provides the ideal excuse to open the weekend with a celebration of northern poetry, written by two living Pennine poets and one of the first literary figures to hail from those hills, Emily Brontë.

Bridgewater Basin Floating Ecosystems
What’s happening in the Basin?
Working in partnership Manchester City Council and Clean City Fund along with Cityco, Bridgewater Hall, Petersfield Group and the Canal and River Trust, internationally renowned Aquatic scientists Biomatrix are creating a network of floating active ecosystems to help improve the biodiversity and water quality of the Basin.

Why do it?
We want to increase the quality and functionality of both our green spaces (parks, gardens etc.) and our blue spaces (rivers, canals and water bodies). At the moment the basin lacks a little interest, and this project aims to breathe new life into the water body, improving the aesthetic, creating a haven for wildlife.
